Compassion,Love,and the Mercy Watch
Hi friends! As I here sit on this uneventul Friday night enjoying the spoils of premium cable (I must say HBO, you have my heart!), I began thinking about that crazy little thing called love. Love is a splendid thing and can come in many forms, whether it be romantic, friendship, or family, and for all of you who enjoy it and let love in, we all know that certain sacrifices must be made in any relationship. This brings me to a phenomena I have recently dubbed “The Mercy Watch.”
With my one and only this past weekend, I very reluctantly watched the final installment of the Star Wars prequels, which I never intended to watch anything with ‘star’ or ‘wars’ in the title in my 3* years (that asterisk is for my eyes only!), and allow me to say the force was indeed not strong with any of these movies. No disrespect to the genius that is George Lucas, but besides being incredibly imaginative with “out of this world” effects (yes, I went there), they were beyond terrible. Underacted, sloppy storytelling…I digress. The point is my main squeeze absolutely loves the world of fantasy and sci-fi, where hobbits and elves search for rings, new galaxies and lifeforms are discovered, and zombies roam freely.
While I fully respect a person’s right to love time travel and wormholes, I don’t tend to watch these types of movies and television shows, but for a person I love, I will unquestionably mercy watch something in these genres to make them happy because that’s what you do when you love someone. So to that end, if your romantic partner in love and life, or anyone who you share your heart with, enjoys alien warfare while you’d rather be watching a Sex and the City rerun (ladies, I know you feel me), there is hope! Find common ground and throw them a mercy watch every now and again to let them know you care. As we all know, nothing says love like sharing your heart with another…and your TV remote!
