Movie Rehab
Hello all! It has been several weeks since we’ve had the pleasure of meeting, so allow me to extend a virtual hug and air kiss to each and everyone of you. Pleasantries aside, I have a serious topic I need to discuss with you, and since this is a safe space and I am among friends, I feel comfortable uttering the following words:
My name is Cassandra Perez, and I am a movieholic. (cue the deep sigh of relief)
Now in saying that I am a movieholic, I don’t just mean that I am an avid lover of film who meticulously updates her Netflix queue and worships at the altar of Entertainment Weekly. I am a film girl who is in need of serious movie rehab. My love of consistently rewatching the same movie over and over and over again (I have TBS’s limited pool of movies to thank for that-shout out to Old School and Frank the Tank!) was never of any concern to me…that is, until recently when I rewatched The 40 Year Old Virgin 4 times in one week, Wedding Crashers twice a week for a month, and wore out my remote control queing up 27 Dresses on my DVR for the 895th time.
They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Well friends, I fear this may apply to me and the movies I love to love! If one of my favorite movies is on, I have no qualms watching and rewatching it, even if the number of times I’ve seen said film is in the triple digits! I say true love is timeless, so if it’s a flick that has captured your heart and brings you joy and amusement for 120 minutes, I say enjoy it! Ignore the comments and rolls of the eyes of others in the room, and you get your You’ve Got Mail on! Be proud of your movie loves and cinematic guilty pleasures, and keep on watching!
I hope I have encouraged others out there with a movie addiction problem to speak up and be honest about their condition. With support and courage, I am sure we can cure ourselves of this addiction and face tomorrow with a brave face……or perhaps we can just hold hands, commiserate, and watch Pretty Woman again on basic cable. You work on commission, right? ; )
